Location: Westchester County, NY

Posting Date: 1/6/2009

Salary: Up to

Job Description:

Our client, located in Westchester County, New York is a financial services company that operates as a bank.  Currently they have a select opening for a programmer with Summit experience.  We recognize that Summit is rare, so we are willing to look at anyone with mainframe or big application experience.  Enclosed below is the general description and addendum.  This is an exciting place to work and there is a lot happening in terms of growth and security.

Key Responsibilities:

Support and maintain all front-end applications and manage daily operation to support business needs. Manage and coordinate the day-to-day functioning of the daily processes on assigned applications.

Act as the technical liaison between users and IT. Answer questions and provide explanations regarding applications, and understand their business processes. Be available to give demonstrations, teach a class, or suggest technical solutions as appropriate.

  • Design and implement programming solutions to assigned or identified problems using appropriate coding languages.
  • Manage relationship with external providers -- vendors and consultants. Provide needed information and ensure they meet agreed deadlines. Aid in researching and evaluating potential providers, and costing out external options.
  • Take ownership of assigned Helpdesk tickets and resolve. Identify root causes where appropriate.
  • Adhere to the goals and standards set forth by the Service Level Agreement (SLA).
  • Proactively identify and provide enhancements and fixes to applications whenever possible.
  • Provide business analysis of assigned applications and processes. Identify weaknesses, recommend solutions, and implement corrections.
  • Participate in group development projects. Coordinate with other developers and business users, adhere to deadlines, and meet all assigned tasks.
  • Provide project management on smaller projects; coordinate efforts and map tasks and dates to ensure successful completion of the project.
  • Thoroughly test all programming work, and any changes introduced to the Production environment. Coordinate user and integration testing as needed.
  • Communicate regularly with users and other IT members regarding status, coding changes, policy updates, etc.
  • Thoroughly document all policies and procedures and post in shared environment. Cross-train other IT members as needed, and be available to be cross-trained.
  • Continue to learn new applications and products. Take courses to earn credits, cross-train regularly, and become familiar with every business unit and its functions.
  • Work with Managers and VPs in other departments to address issues that fall outside the normal scope of assigned duties.
  • Develop and train other Programmers and Senior Programmers.

B.S. in Computer Science/Business Administration or 5-7 years of financial application support/consulting experience.  3-5 years experience with Summit required.  Familiarity with programming algorithms and standards.  Strong organizational and communication skills.  Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills.   Demonstrated high level understanding of installed applications and successful IT project delivery.  Project management coursework valued.

The position they’re hoping to fill is a Summit Spectrum system, so any experience programming that system would be a very big plus. They consider using someone who had related experience, such as programming on other large applications such as Scimitar -- there'd be a learning curve but they would consider it.

The job doesn't use Java or any other standard programming language: Summit has its own coding language that the person will need to use. If they know SQL it would help as well, but is not a requirement.

They don't absolutely need network knowledge, but some would help them out. Switch configuration skills aren't needed at all. Helpdesk experience also wouldn't really apply here – They would rather have an application developer than a helpdesk resource. They are looking for any big application programmers or mainframe programmers
